Within the scope of the "Technical Assistance for the Assessment of Türkiye's Potential on Transition to Circular Economy Project" (DEEP), which prepares the roadmap for Türkiye's transition to circular economy, the third study visit to Luxembourg and France was carried out between 15 April - 19 April 2024 to exchange information on the ongoing activities and practices related to circular economy in the context of resource and waste management in EU countries.
The Turkish delegation, which carried out the third study visit of the DEEP Project, included representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, Turkish Statistical Institute and the project team.
The study visit started with a visit to the European Statistical Office in Luxembourg. During the visit, information was received about the European statistical system, data sources, and country reports. During the visit to the European Investment Bank; existing projects and cooperation opportunities for the transition to circular cities were evaluated.
Within the scope of the 3rd study visit, the objectives and strategies of France on circular economy were discussed during the meetings with the French Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion. In this framework; France's indicators and data sources for monitoring progress in circular economy and France's Extended Producer Responsibility practices were reviewed with the guidance of French experts.
During the visit, the circularity commitments of member companies within the scope of "Ambition4Circularity", an initiative of the French Association of Large Companies, were discussed. The functioning of the Extended Producer Responsibility System in France and its contribution to the circular economy were evaluated.
On the last day of the programme, Ambassador Prof. Dr. Kerem Alkin, Permanent Representative of OECD Türkiye, was visited. Afterwards, information about the Circular Economy Roadmaps developed by the OECD for North Macedonia and Albania was received from the OECD South Eastern Europe Directorate of Global Relations and Cooperation and they were informed about the DEEP Project. The second meeting of the day was held with the OECD Environment, Statistics and Data Directorate. Information was shared about the OECD and United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Circular Economy Indicator Set and the structure of the OECD Circular Economy Indicator Inventory.
After the internal team evaluation meeting, the third study visit was completed.
