Sectoral Impact Assessment Consultation Meeting” was organized with regard to the "Technical Assistance for Assessment of Türkiye's Potential on Transition to Circular Economy (DEEP) Project", which was carried out by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, with the participation of ministry representatives, sector representatives, and project technical support team on May 2, 2022.

The meeting, hosted by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, started with the opening remarks of Mr. Recep Akdeniz, Directorate General of Environmental Management, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.

The purpose of the meeting was to evaluate the impact of the measures in the EU Circular Economy Package on the key sectors identified in Turkey's transition to a circular economy process (Plastics, packaging and packaging wastes, textiles, food and biomass, electronics and information and communications technology, batteries and vehicles, construction and demolition waste, and buildings).

The Sectoral Impact Assessment Consultation Meeting, held within the framework of the "Sectoral Impact Assessment" studies, which is an important infrastructure feature for the preparation of the National Circular Economy Strategy and Action Plan, shared the preliminary results obtained within the scope of the Project regarding the possible effects on key sectors, developed scenarios, and outputs of previously conducted company meetings.

During the meeting, Mr. Mihail Dimovski, the DEEP Project Team Leader, gave a presentation on "The Purpose of the DEEP Project and Sectoral Impact Assessment Activities". Information was provided on "Sectoral Impact Assessment Methodology and Questionnaire Form" and "Sectoral Impact Assessment Current Progress and Preliminary Results" by Ms. Özge Yılmaz, Senior Non-Key Expert of the DEEP Project.

Working group sessions were also held during the meeting. Within this framework, representatives from key sectors discussed the following topics:

  • General Information on Circular Economy Actions
  • Potential Impact
  • Domestic Sales Potential and/or Export/Import Effects
  • Existing Studies on Impacts
  • Effects of Specific Legislation on the Sector
  • Effects of Horizontal Issues on the Sector

In light of these studies, feedback was sought from sector representatives who participated in the meeting on the current efforts and possible impacts regarding the transition to a circular economy.
