"High Level Meeting on Guidelines for Collection System in Line with Circular Economy Concept" organised within the scope of “Technical Assistance for Assessment of Türkiye's Potential on Transition to Circular Economy (DEEP) Project” was held in Ankara on 18 December 2024 with the participation of mayors and deputy mayors.

The opening speech of the meeting was made by Mr Fatih Turan, Director General of Environmental Management of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change. In his speech, Mr Turan emphasised that circular economy is a concept that is gaining importance day by day both in achieving our 2053 climate neutrality target and in protecting our limited raw material resources. Mr Turan also stated that Türkiye has long been making efforts for the "zero waste" approach, which it has developed and implemented at the national level and is trying to promote at the international level.

Mr Turan emphasised the importance of cooperation and working together to increase the recovery rate to 60 per cent in 2035 and 70 per cent in 2053 with the Zero Waste Project.

Mr Fatih Turan emphasised that the participants will be informed about the current developments on the "regulation", "action plan" and "‘implementation guidelines" on the implementation of "zero waste" during the meeting. Mr Turan also stated that they expect mayors and deputy mayors to convey the issues experienced in practice and to contribute to the functional updating of these documents.

The meeting ended with the opinions and suggestions of the mayor and deputy mayors regarding the zero waste guidelines for the collection system.
