Zero Waste Management System Implementation Workshop

"Zero Waste Management System Implementation Workshop"  was held in Antalya.

"Zero Waste Management System Implementation Workshop" organized within the scope of "Technical Assistance for the Assessment of Türkiye's Potential for Transition to Circular Economy (DEEP) Project" was held in Antalya on 5-6-7 November 2024 with the participation of 78 people from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change and Provincial Directorates, metropolitan and district municipalities, public institutions and private sector. Ms. Hülya Çakır, Branch Manager from the General Directorate of Environmental Management of our Ministry, emphasised the importance of zero waste awareness and practices and expressed the objectives of the workshop and the contributions it will provide for the participants.

Each day, in order to facilitate discussions before the working groups, informative presentations were made by the Ministry and project experts on the following topics

  • Waste Prevention and Reduction Strategies and Good Practices from the EU
  • Developments in Zero Waste Management System
  • Evaluating the Advantages and Disadvantages of Recyclable Waste Collection Methods
  • Impact of Integration of Economic Instruments on Aggregation

In the workshop, which lasted for 3 days in total, the current status of the zero waste management system was analysed through the ‘SWOT Analysis’ (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) method. Then, working groups were formed on ‘Improvement Suggestions for Increasing the Collection Efficiency of Recyclable Wastes’. Participants made detailed analyses and shared improvement suggestions under the headings of Legislation, Inspection and Criminal Sanctions, Infrastructure and Technology, Economic Tools, Institutional Structuring and Training and Awareness Raising to make the collection processes of different waste streams more efficient. Afterwards, intensive interactive sessions and working groups were organised under the title of ‘Zero Waste Management System Improvement Suggestions’.

The innovative approaches, implementation models and solution-oriented strategies developed for participants, local governments and other stakeholders to achieve zero waste targets faster and more effectively are expected to make significant contributions to the ‘Technical Assistance for the Assessment of Türkiye's Potential for Transition to Circular Economy (DEEP) Project’.
