“Deep Project” which has a budget of approximately 3.2 million €, is supported by EU IPA funds, and will continue for three years, has started on Feb 7th, 2022, with the objective to upgrade the circular economy studies in our country, improve the sustainability implementations, and determine the strategy and the roadmap regarding the circular economy.
The opening event of the Project, which the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Department of European Union Investment acts as the Contracting Authority, and is implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Zero Waste and Waste Treatment Department as the End Recipient, is conducted on May 23rd, 2022 at Ankara with the participation approximately 200 people. Additively, the opening event was broadcasted live on YouTube.
Opening speeches of the opening event were given by the Deputy Minister and special envoy for Climate, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin BiRPINAR; Ambassador, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye, Mr. Nikolaus MEYER-LANDRUT; Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Directorate for EU Affairs, Director General of Financial Cooperation and Project Implementation Mr. Bülent ÖZCAN; Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Director General for of Environmental Management Mr. Eyyüp KARAHAN; Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Director General for European Union and Foreign Relations, Head of Operating Structure Mr. Aytaç YÜKSEL, and DAI Global Austria, Vice President, Head of EU Business Unit Mr. Jakob ZEIDLER.
The importance of collaboration was emphasized and its possible contributions to our country were mentioned in the opening speeches; thereby, the circular economy involves all the stakeholders. The subjects of a unique “Circular Economy Strategy and Action Plan” for our country will be prepared with the related institutions and sector establishments; a “Sectoral Impact Evaluation Action” will being conducted to support the preparation of the action plan; a unique roadmap for our country about disposable plastics and marine debris will be developed by reviewing the current implementations following the EU Plastic Strategy and Disposable Plastic Directive; studies intended to strengthen the corporate capacity in the field of the circular economy will be conducted; integrated waste management system directed to support the prevention of the formation of waste and separate collection will be evaluated, and guides related to the best practices will be prepared were shared by reviewing the zero waste implementations by giving information about the activities that will be conducted within the project.
After the opening speeches, Technical Assistance Team Leader, Mr. Mihail Dimovski gave a presentation about the detailed introductory of the Project that will contribute to create a new perspective on “sustainable environment” and “green development” in our country.
